Vladimir Putin calls attack “cruel and cynical crime”

Russian President Vladimir Putin says the attack in Barcelona was a “cruel and cynical crime committed against civilians.”

“What has happened once again confirms the need for a real unification of the efforts of the entire global community in an uncompromising struggle against the forces of terror,” he said.

Driver hits two police officers

Two police officers have been run over at a security point in Barcelona, according to Catalan police. The two suffered minor injuries.

It is unclear whether this incident is related to the terror attack in Barcelona earlier.

Officers say they found the driver of the car involved in the incident in Sant Just Desvern, on the western outskirts of Barcelona. A bomb disposal expert is checking the suspect vehicle.

ISIS: The Barcelona attackers are our “soldiers”

ISIS’s media wing, Amaq, has issued a statement claiming that the perpetrators of the Barcelona attack are “soldiers of the Islamic State.”

But it should be noted: ISIS has not explicitly claimed responsibility for the attack itself.
